Primary xylem and phloem is most easily
examined in young herbaceous stems. In stems, vascular tissue is usually
arranged in separate strands called bundles. In this colateral vascular
bundle, xylem and phloem differentiate along the same radius with phloem
in the exarch position and the xylem endarch. What is meant by the terms
exarch and endarch?
