This specimen of Eunice appears to be in a 'sit and wait' predatory position. The proboscis is everted withe jaws held out wide. The jaws may be in a locked 'click' position that saves muscles fatigue and can be easily released allowing the jaws to snap shut on an unwary fish or crustacean. The antennae and palps dorsal to the jaws may act as the sensory structures for catching prey. Eunice is found around the Australian coast and reaches several metres in length.
