
Sabellestarte australis was described by William Haswell of University of Sydney in 1883 from specimens from Sydney Harbour. This is the most commony seen largest sabellid along the east Australin coast. It is found in rock pools in the lower intertidal region and has a white to orange crown reaching 15 cm in diameter.
