Class Arachnida

Members of the class Arachnida are characterised by having two body segments, a cephalothorax (formed from the fusion of the head and thorax) and an abdomen. They have eight legs, each pair attached to the cephalothoracic region and they lack antennae. The class includes spiders, mites, ticks, scorpions. Most spiders and scorpions are predatory species while ticks and mites have a range of feeding habits - from blood feeding on vertebrates to plant feeders to predatory species which feed on other mites.
