Class Chilopoda

The class Chilopoda is mainly composed of centipedes. Centipedes have a head bearing eyes, well developed mouthparts and one pair of antennae. The body consists of many segments, each of which bears one pair of legs. The legs of the first body segment are modified into poisonous jaws and are used for defense as well as for capturing prey. Centipedes are insectivorous and often feed on other arthropods as well.
