Transplant of Corpora Allata

showing the consequences of transplantation of the corpora allata

If the corpora allata are removed from a small nymph and transplanted to a large nymph, the small nymph will moult into a tiny adult (since its source of juvenile hormone has been removed), and the large nymph will moult into a monster nymph (since it has excess juvenile hormone which will suppress adult features).

Insect endocrinology is currently an active area of research because it offers the potential for disrupting the life cycle of a pest without harm to the environment.
