They are found virtually everywhere and are responsible for an estimated eighty billion dollars worth of crop damage and loss throughout the world each year. Nearly all crops are damaged by at least one nematode species, however low-level damage often remains undetected despite reduced crop quality and quantity. Some common nematode pests include root knot nematode, cyst nematode, citrus nematode, lesion nematode and stubby root nematode.
