Nematode Damaged Banana Roots

Chemical nematicides are highly toxic and have the potential to be seriously environmentally damaging which has led to research in alternative methods for nematode control. One of the most promising solutions is the use of nematode-trapping fungi, commercially known as myco-nematicides. These fungi are able to form organs on their hyphae which trap the nematode. There are two types of traps, non-adhesive and adhesive. Non-adhesive traps may include constricting rings which spring closed and capture the nematode, while an adhesive trap may include a sticky network of filaments in which the nematode is caught and then digested by the fungi.
